Employing international workers: how to arrange housing, language and guidance

Employing international workers offers opportunities, but also brings responsibilities in terms of housing, communication and legislation. Discover how Versado fully relieves you as an employer and ensures a smooth, responsible collaboration.

International workers are indispensable for many companies in Limburg. They bring dedication and flexibility, but their arrival requires good preparation. As an employer, you're not just looking for the right person for the job, you're also co-responsible for a good start in the Netherlands. A partner who knows the ins and outs is then essential. Versado takes this concern completely off your hands.

Good housing: the foundation for success

A pleasant and safe place to live is the foundation for a motivated employee. Without stable housing, workers cannot function optimally. That's why the government sets strict requirements for the housing of migrant workers.

The main standard here is the SNF certification (Stichting Normering Flexwonen). This certification guarantees that the housing meets clear requirements in terms of:

  • Space and privacy
  • Sanitary facilities
  • Safety and fire prevention
  • Hygiene

At Versado, we work exclusively with SNF-certified housing. We arrange and inspect the accommodation, so you can be sure that international employees are housed well and safely. This not only saves you time and administration, but also guarantees that you comply with the standards for good employership.

Communication: bridging the language barrier

A common challenge is the language barrier. Clear communication on the work floor is crucial for productivity, but especially for safety. How do you ensure that work instructions and safety regulations are correctly understood?

Versado addresses this in several ways:

  • Clear work instructions: Where possible, we provide visual instructions or translations of the most important documents.
  • Multilingual guidance: Our coordinators speak the language of the employees. They are the fixed point of contact on the work floor and beyond, and can help translate and explain tasks.
  • Practical support: We prepare employees for the work culture and the specific processes within the company.

This way, we ensure an efficient and safe working environment for everyone.

Employing staff from other EU countries brings specific legal obligations. It's important to handle this carefully to avoid fines and legal issues.

WagwEU notification obligation

The Terms of Employment (Posted Workers in the European Union) Act (WagwEU) requires you to register foreign workers who come to work temporarily in the Netherlands via the online notification portal. This law also ensures that they are entitled to the main Dutch employment conditions.

Identification and duty of care

As an employer, you have an identification obligation. You must establish the employee's identity and keep a copy of a valid ID document in your records. In addition, you must check whether the employee is allowed to work in the Netherlands.

Versado takes this completely off your hands. We ensure correct registration according to the WagwEU, check all documents and maintain sound administration. You can rely on everything being legally arranged correctly.

Guidance from A to Z

A successful placement goes beyond just work and housing. Versado provides complete guidance:

  • Transport: We arrange reliable transport to and from the work location.
  • Support: We help employees apply for a BSN (Dutch social security number), open a Dutch bank account and take out health insurance.
  • Personal contact: Our coordinators are the fixed point of contact for both the employee and the employer.

Thanks to this comprehensive approach, international employees can fully focus on their work. You bring in motivated talent, while we perfectly arrange the surrounding conditions.
